Diving into Resumes
A resume is a primary source of information that potential employers will use to evaluate your qualifications for an internship or career position. It is an opportunity to focus on your skills and experience that directly relate to the job you are applying to. A resume is not a complete compilation of all your work experience, it is a snapshot of your professional credentials.
Anytime you initiate communication with a potential employer, you will want to include your resume, even if they have not requested it. Your resume should already be updated with job or internship experience that is relevant to the position. If you are applying for a job or internship, keep in mind that you will need a cover letter, also. Furthermore, if a potential employer requests an interview, bring physical copies of both your cover letter and resume regardless of whether you have already sent them.
The context within a resume will vary for everyone depending on experience, relevance, and the career you are applying for. However, what needs to be on your resume is similar for most applicants (educational background, skillset, previous employment areas, etc.)
Structuring a resume can be difficult to achieve. Luckily, there are several steps within this module that will guide you in accurately portraying yourself in the best way.
